Evans Oil Company |

![]() Evans Oil Company, located in Monroe, LA, has been in business since 1966. Bennie Evans, Sr. and his wife bought the business when Lion Oil decided to sell and move out of the area. Bennie Evans, Jr. now runs the company. They operate primarily in Louisiana and supply a few stations in Mississippi that were obtained through an acquisition in 2000. They currently supply gasoline and diesel to one hundred thirty-three locations. Prior to implementing AIMS’ COMPAS accounting system in 1983, everything was done the old fashioned way. All of their accounting was performed by hand in a Journal and GL book, which was very common at that time. In addition to COMPAS, Evans Oil uses AUTOSEND for their fuel inventory management and dispatching. James Connor, Controller for Evans Oil, has been with them for almost twelve years. When he was first hired, the main project he tackled was their credit card reconciliation. All reconciliation was done by hand, which proved to be time consuming and prone to errors. "Everything was in boxes in a room before the creation of the Credit Card Module," James remembers. AIMS and Evans Oil worked together on a way to automate the reconciliation of Evans’ credit card batches. Annette Kesler went to Evans’ office and spent about four hours with their team. Currently the Director of Client Services, Annette was a programmer in AIMS’ Research and Development Department at the time. James comments, "Because of her experience, Annette had a tremendous amount of input as to how the Credit Card module should work." When they left the meeting that day, every scenario they could possibly think of was written into a wish list for the creation of the Credit Card Module. Harold Cripps worked on the project with Annette. Harold has been with AIMS as a programmer for over twenty three years. "Harold and Annette did an excellent job: Annette at determining how the module should work and Harold at actually getting it to work," James says. All of the planning and preparation paid off in a smooth implementation. Only two minor changes had to be made from the original version of the credit card module. James insists, "The only reason that someone would not be satisfied with COMPAS and the credit card module is if they are not using it right. The combination of Evans Oil and AIMS has been a real |
success. We have been extremely pleased in the ability to have access to the ownership of a company that is willing to create new things." In 2000, Bennie Evans, Jr. was presented with the
opportunity to grow his business through the acquisition of a
neighboring marketer’s operation. Bennie’s concern was keeping the
James Connor feels that reduced labor and
overhead is one of the biggest benefits they experience from working
with AIMS. "Without the current system that we have in place, it
would probably take twenty-five people eight hours a day to keep up.
But we are currently running our office on a staff of ten people." Evans Oil is not trying to reduce the size of their staff, although they could. Instead, they intend to grow their business into their staff. James elaborates, "Right now, we could grow our business by 25% without hiring any additional staff for the office." That is one of the many benefits of utilizing a well-designed, true jobber system. As a result of working with AIMS, James sees continued prosperous growth in their future and knows that other marketers can do the same. "We would not have done anything differently. Implementing COMPAS went really easy. Of course we only had 21 or 22 locations at that time. If a marketer is not satisfied with their present system, then they at least need to look at AIMS. Change is always hard and there is a learning curve, but the payoff is worth it." |
