More and more states either require or allow petroleum marketers to file motor fuel tax reports electronically. There are two main formats in use among these states: the so-called "flat file” type, which is a variety of text file, or EDI type ("EDI” stands for "electronic data interchange”).  Over time, EDI may become the predominant electronic tax filing format.  It is certainly probable that somewhere in the future all states will require  or allow some form of electronic tax filing.

AIMS has created AutoTax as a cost effective automated software solution for electronically filing excise motor fuel taxes for states who require Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), XML or have other unique filing formats.  AutoTax imports motor fuel excise tax data provide by your current accounting system and converts that data to the proper file format. It simplifies the e-filing and reporting process for motor fuel excise taxes.  AutoTax  will accept a .csv data file produced by the marketer's current accounting software, map that data according to EDI standards, and create a file that can be transmitted to a state's revenue department.

Just like AutoSend and AutoSIR, AutoTax can be used by marketers who aren't yet AIMS customers.   There will no longer be a need to use another 3^rd party solution for tax reporting.  Minimal training is required so training can easily be conducted via the web.
